Uso del GPS y la CartografÃa nacional:
Actualmente la mayorÃa de la cartografÃa disponible, ya sea Cartas del Servicio Geográfico Militar, Cartas de Suelos (RENARE-MGAP), consultas CONEAT (www.prenader.gub.uy/coneat), etc. se encuentran proyectadas en formato Gauss (Yacaré) que expresa sus unidades en metros mientras que la mayorÃa de los GPS utilizan la proyección "Geográfica" que tiene como unidades grados, minutos, segundos. El porque los mapas se expresan en este formato esta dado porque la proyección "geográfica" se utiliza para encontrar un punto en una esfera (en este caso el globo terrestre), mientras que un mapa es una superficie plana por lo que hay que pasar de grados a metros.
La conversión de una proyección a la otra
implica cálculos geométricos complejos, por lo que para facilitar esta
tarea es que se presenta este software sencillo de distribución
gratuita, con la información necesaria para utilizarlo.
