12.11.09. UPM-Kymmene will permanently close several plywood mills and sawmills as a part of additional restructuring measures. In this vein, the birch plywood mills in Heinola and Kaukas/Lappeenranta will be permanently shut down during the first half of 2010. Moreover, most of the four remaining plywood mills in Finland are to cancel weekend shifts. The company will also be looking at further job cuts in administration.

In the lumber sector, UPM is going to permanently close the sawmill in Heinola as well as the further processing mill in Parkano that specialises in structural wood products, in particular. In addition, the Kaukas planing mill in Lappeenranta will be restructured, but should continue operations.
